5. Scaling theory of the Quantum Hall effect

Presentations » 5. Scaling theory of the Quantum Hall effect

Taken by Michał Białończyk

The Quantum Hall effect manifests itself by peaks (in the longitudinal direction) and plateaus (in the transverse direction) of the conductance of a 2d electron gas exposed to a perpendicular magnetic field. The experimental results have been successfully analyzed using a scaling theory which goes beyond a one-parameter scaling hypothesis. The attached article is a review article covering many topics. I propose to concentrate on the experimental results and the scaling theory, that is mainly sections 2, 4 and 5.

The precise analysis of a specific model is the subject of presentation 6.
